Hey all,
I want to get the community's feel on this so the question is :
Should new members still in the trial period be limited to a daily post amount ?

I think so. It might be a good way to make sure someone is in for the long run and will ultimately contribute and not just get what they want and get out..

Umm...why?...isn't posting kinda the whole point of a forum??

I don't think you should have to post a certain amount each day. Sometimes there is not anything that warrants a reply. I do agree with catorgories not being seen though by new members such as invite giveaways etc. Tricky one really :)

only one vote for nay... I just wanted to get a idea being new members usually try to spam to 20 not knowing they still have a 15 day wait period.

If you imposed a per-day post limit, I think that would be effective. I'm still a new user, and posted nearly five times yesterday, but I focused on contributing as much as possible. However, I would assume the majority of users post as quickly as possible to get to twenty posts.
I vote yes for limiting posts though.

You still have to wait the required time even if you have enough posts, so I don't think a limit is necessary. Also, what if someone has lots and lots of legitimate and helpful posts to make?

^That's a good point. I have been here for about a month, and not to toot my horn, but I think I have made positive contributions to threads that are not "spammy."

I also don't think it's necessary. That's the whole point of the trial period - even if you have enough posts you gotta make 2 weeks first. ;)

If you do, make it a high limit. If you look at my account, it's a prime example of someone who came here late, after hearing it was a good place to get invites. But at the same time, I also plan on sticking around, and I haven't spammed posts just for the purpose of raising it to 100 as quickly as possible. However, when you're a new member, ALL the threads are new to YOU, so you might honestly want to reply to a lot of threads in one sitting.
I have about 50 posts, and I joined Sept. 9th (9 days ago). But I've held back. I haven't started to dig through older threads for interesting or helpful topics. If I had, I would be a new user with probably 100-150 posts in 10 days. That's about 15 posts per day, and quite feasible (even being honest without spamming) by just reading a lot and posting a lot.
So if you do, maybe limit it to something under 20 posts/day? And make that known to new users, so they will KNOW they can't just spam posts right after signing up just to access restricted areas.
On the flipside, the system as it is now is kinda unfair for users like me, who aren't spammers and plan on being part of the community. At my slow pace, I still have another 50 posts to go before I can access the Requests section, and another 6 days to go before I can even access the Invite Giveaways section.
Honestly, it's kinda counter-intuitive. The rules as they are would actually reward me if I started making tons of non-nonsensical posts tonight just to reach 100. I dunno, it's a double-edged sword any way you look at it.
I just wish that all the long, in-depth posts I've made like this one counted more than someone's "Thanks!" post.

I like the idea. So new members can't spam just to get enough posts to enter a part of the forum. I've already been seeing too many members spamming, just to get in a certain part of the invites section.
