View Full Version : Best DVD Ripping Software?

Hey all-

I'm wondering what's the best DVD ripping software that can avoid all of the copyright stuff.

I tried out DVDGhost, but I don't like the way it names/organizes the files. I can't seem to get a rip that will show a menu and everything. I could be missing the .iso feature or something.

Anyways, what is the best program to get the best quality rips?

I use Alcohol 120% to make isos and Nero to make .vob. Gives you the root menu and special features. I've never been unsatisfied with either programs.

Since I'm not a very advanced user when it comes to ripping DVDs I use Fairuse Wizard. It's easy to use, rips in pretty good quality and it still has a fair bit of options for more advanced use.

Other than that, I also occasionally use DVD Shrink but my preference it still Fairuse.

As many have already said; your best bet for bypassing copyright is to try one of these programs:

AnyDvd - Works great. My favorite of the bunch. getting the crack to work can be annoying
DvdDecryptor - Freeware and no loger updated. Still works for most things
DvdFab - Do use it much but it does work and is still updated

If by rip, you mean to an ISO or VOBs, then DVD Decrypter. You can rip out just the streams to get a VOB of a film, if you want.

If you mean to then encode to DivX, XviD, or H.264, then meGUI. It's free, and it can update all the individual components, like codecs, so you're always running the latest software. I consider meGUI as a replacement for GordianKnot, since GK is old. I don't like automated programs like AutoGK, since I'm a bit of an A/V nerd, so if you want more control, this is the way to go.

Badaboom

The four cornerstones of Badaboom:

· Transcoding Speed – Badaboom is fast! Instead of taking hours to convert a movie to play on your iPod, it can now be done in a matter of minutes.

· Efficient Use of Your System Resources – Badaboom converts video using the GPU, which offloads the CPU so you can continue to browse the Internet or check email without slowing down your system.

· Uncompromised Video Quality – The algorithms used to develop the Elemental H.264 encoder ensure that videos transcoded using Badaboom maintain the highest possible quality.

· Ease of Use and Flexibility – The Badaboom user interface lets you easily drag and drop your video, select a device and go! Alternatively, Badaboom's flexibility lets you easily customize your settings.

Badaboom eliminates the frustration of video conversion by providing users with speed, efficiency, quality, and a sleek interface. In a practice that used to take several hours, Badaboom converts feature-length movies in a matter of minutes while keeping the videos looking crisp and clear.

By harnessing the power of NVIDIA CUDA-enabled GPUs, Badaboom offloads the CPU to allow users to continue browsing the Internet or checking email without decreased system performance, making transcoding high-quality video fast, easy, and painless.

I typically will run AnyDVD in the background while ripping/shrinking with DVD Shrink. Even though it's old I still think it's quite good and has a solid number of options that won't confuse people as easily as some of the other options out there.

If AnyDVD won't handle the protection then I usually go to DVDFab. I haven't had to go that route in about a year now so I'm not sure if DVDFab is still a go to (I know software sometimes declines over time).

I really would love to see some more recent comments from some really senior TIers on here (thanks @ Punisher). Am I using the best?
