View Full Version : Building a new PC
I'm think of building myself a new PC. Although, I'm having a tough time deciding on what products to use. It will mainly be used for gaming and design. I was thinking nvidia gfx card, intel procesor, asus mobo, I'm just unsure as to what series of chips work best together.
Some helpful input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the input.

I think companies are going to start making games, and apps, that will run best with a quad core processor. so it might not give you a really big performance boost now, but it will in the not-so-far future. So..... get a quad core. ;)

You may want to wait until December when Intel releases its new Core i7 CPUs. While you may not want to jump in with the latest and greatest from Intel, it should drive down the prices of existing CPUs, if nothing else.
What kind of design are you doing? Web design? Auto CAD? Graphical design?
Quad core can be more beneficial to professional/graphical designing (like 3D Studio Max), but it's currently not of much use for gaming.
Yeah, that is a very good point i wasn't planning on building it until after the new year anyway. X-mas might just break the bank....hopefully not though.

i would highly recommend amd cpu's if cost is any issue. you get a very decent performance for less money. even though i am using intel cpu's on my laptops, i stuck to amd on the desktops i have built.

CPU - E8500
Motherboard - Gigabyte EP45-DS3R
Memory - 4GB Kingston Hyper-x
Graphics Card - HIS 4870 1GB
Hard Drive - 750GB + 320GB
Power Supply - Seasonic 600w M12 Super Silent
Case - CoolerMaster 690
OS - Vista Ultimate 64bit
My current Rig best value for performance you will get.
Intel's CPU are the best out right now even in the price range as they are currently outperforming AMD's offerings, as are ATi's compared to nvidia's.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me or post back here.
Also dont mind the extra hard drive :D. The power supply was bundled with the CPU hence why i have it but still a great PSU.

May i suggest an ATI HD4870 graphics card. Its very cheap and handles all games at 1080p resolution. Its a must get for a bargain. As for CPU get a Dual core CPU as they say in many reviews that they utilize the games better than Quad Core. Motherboard brands that are really good is Gigabyte which i have used to overclock my CPU on and its still running well and dandy.

When I built mine Nvidia was killing ATI, but if I was buying a graphics card now I'd have to go with ATI. I think I'd still go with Intel for the processor though.

I built a HTPC not long ago and spent 450€ for everything. Best investment I ever made! ;.-)
