Similar to another thread on here, I know, but I'm more interested in format; specifically, what's your favorite format and what do you use to play it?
I imported most of my CD collection in apple lossless, and I generally convert my flac downloads to alc and listen to them in iTunes... However, having just discovered foobar2000 i really wish it would play my apple lossless files. I'd rather keep conversions to a minimum and avoid a alc to flac conversion, so it's iTunes for the moment. How about you? Anyone know of other good audio players that play apple lossless?

Nope I was pretty disappointed as well, I expected it to. After all, it plays every other format I could conceive of. What's a rockbox?

I'm starting to download more and more FLAC now in case I invest in any good equipment that allows me to actually hear the difference between it and MP3 320. I figure hard drive space is so cheap nowadays, and I already have more than enough for my current library to be in FLAC, that I might as well make the switch since it couldn't hurt. I actually am able to hear a very small difference on some songs, mostly stuff by Pink Floyd.
What's a rockbox?
Open source firmware for iPod. It's got playback support for all kinds of extra formats that iPod's don't support natively.

I use mostly Winamp and I like to listen in MP3 format

Uses iTunes most of the time and listens to MP3 formats. I don't really have much space on my HDD. LOL

I do the same exact process - - (1) either download a flac of the cd (or album) that I want from an online source, or rip the cd I have in my collection to flac (via EAC with FLAC codec) , then (2) convert flac to apple lossless using dbPoweramp (3) then take mp3tag and chck & fix ID3 tags (if in Windows Vista), then (4) I copy lossless files to my Mac Mini and (ultimately add folder to library in iTunes. If files still have some ID3 tag issues, I use Jaikoz to do final corrections.
This is kinda a long process but it backs up all my cds into flac and also makes 2 copies of every thing that I either download or manually rip myself from my own collection.
Lastly it makes for a usable format for my ipod which I use in my car (connected to an Alpine W200 touch-screen) head unit.
My only problem with this whole process is that in the end, the Ipod is only so large, no where large enough to hold my whole collection which I estimate is probably somewhere near 2.5 TB at lossless levels.

mp3's. I don't pay attention to the bitrate because I don't really care about the quality.

I've recently started using foobar2k as player. It's a great program but messing around with it isn't the easiest thing :)
