Intenso DVD+R 16x (20 discs with 25 slot bag about 10$)
I updated nero 7 to nero 8 which is like the crappiest burning soft I have ever tried so after 10 mins back to nero 7 :D
Not much of a burner type though. I prefer HDD-s cause their much cheaper nowadays.

Are you talking about copying retail DVD's or converting AVI to DVD?
If you are talking about AVI to DVD, I suggest you look for ConvertXtoDVD. Simple set up, quick conversion and very reliable.
I used to use Shrink for retail, but don't need it anymore as why would I go get retail when I can get it from my favorite tracker? :) :)
Also, in my opinion the slower you burn a disc the better quality you get. Speed is not always your friend.

i used to think that by burning it slower you get better quality but afther a little thought (and way too many crap disks after a slow burn) i realised that it's better to burn faster (if your cpu can handle it, and not just the burner) for example on vhs when recording slp will give you bad quality compared to lp and lp will give you worse quality than the fast play (or w/e it is called on your vcr)

Xbox 360 games Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL burn with ImgBurn on 2 or 2.4 speed.
HD movies also Verbatim.
What you think about TDK DVDs? I use them (TDK DVD-R 16x) with Nero 8 now.

To be honest, when I look for DVD's to back up my movies/programs, I am usually looking for a relatively cheap deal. Usually I stay away from the cheapest and go for the second cheapest. hehe.

I use pretty much any dvdr's for movies and I use only verbatim dl for backing up games. I use Ripit4me with dvd decrypter to read movies and either dvdfab platinum or clone dvd for movies to back up. For games I use xbox backup creator to back up games and imgburn to burn them. I haven't ever had bad luck with the discs other than one here and there. The discs mostly depend on how important what you want to burn is. If it is extremely important I would use verbatim, if it is just something like a back up of a movie I would say pretty much any dvdr will work. Oh and I use only +r dvd's for games and movies.

the best media(compatible media) for burning movies, with every burner is verbatims(+R) and Taiyo Yudens(only available online) however there are many factors for good burns.
firmware of the burner
type of media
burn speed
burn speed really depends on the media you use, for example, its better to burn slower when the media is not first class(what's not 1st class?any brand except sony, verbatims, TY's), so if you use Memorex MID=CMC burn those at half the rated speed or lower.
take verbatims(16X+R), its better to burn those at higher speeds(8x and above) rather than lower(6x and
below)
+R's are better than -R's for the simple fact that you can booktype +R's to dvd-rom(which makes them more compatible for dvd players

Go read some reviews. You'll discover that Taiyo Yuden is a far superior to blank media. They have a 98% success rate; where as most are less than 60%. So do some research and see what you think. I've been using Taiyo Yuden for about 4 months now and haven't had one faulty. Previously I used ones such as Fujifilm, philips, sony, etc... and would get errors on them occasionally.
P.S. I would recommend no one bothers with lightscribe it's expensive and doesn't do that great of a job. If you want to do direct cd/dvd labeling I would recommend the Epson RX680. Does an amazing job! Plus it takes about 2-3 minutes to print a cd/dvd, so it's faster and better quality than light scribe.
Great printer also and it's in color. Lightscribe is only black and "gold" ;)
I use Philips or Maxell DVD+R's, and usually burn things with Nero7, but if I need to burn an AVI, I use ConvertXtoDVD - works great.
Both programs burn whatever I need without any problems.
My burners are a Sony and an NEC.

Geez - a better than 40% fail rate seems pretty high...I would say I run around 90% on a bad day. I gotta check on these Taiyo's!

Use Alcohol 120 and ConvertXtoDVD to burn and various disks. Check out this link because brands change manufacturers all the time and the quality of the branded media change as well. Good read and a great site when it comes to burning.

For movies I use RipIt4Me with DVD Decrypter, then burn with CloneDVD2. For games I use IMGBurn to copy them. Haven't had any problem with either making DVD's or games.

Alright, well here goes... The most superior brand of blank DVD media is Taiyo Yuden. Before you ask yourself why, I'll tell you... Taiyo Yuden Corporation are the original manufacturers of the DVD media. Their quality surpasses even Verbatim. Verbatim is an excellent brand, though. It's alot easier to find Verbatims, because they carry the branded stuff in the store. Taiyo Yuden is only found on online retailers, but they're definitely worth it. Sony DVDs used to be Taiyo Yuden media (most of the 1st 8x media was rebranded Taiyo Yuden). None of their 16x media is rebranded Taiyo Yuden. All in all, it's a decent third choice if Verbatim isn't on sale. As far as burning speed goes, it depends on the speed of the media and the speed of your burner. Why on Earth would you try to burn 16x media in an 18x drive at 2x? It's not a good thing... A general rule of thumb is to burn your media at half the rated speed, i.e burning 16x media at 8, 8x media at 4x, etc... BUT... like I said, this is just a general rule of thumb. If you really want to get to the nitty gritty, download the following programs:
1. Nero CDSpeed
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/
2. DVD Identifier
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
These programs will help you understand more than you ever thought you could. Also, I recommend joining this forum
http://club.cdfreaks.com/ You will truly be able to understand alot about alot of things by reading through the thousands of posts there.
I also agree that ConvertXtoDVD is one of the best converters available. You can convert a full movie in about an hour, depending on your computer. I won't comment on the retail thing on here, but if you really want to know just drop me a PM and I'll happily tell you which ones I think are best. But no, it definitely isn't Shrink... :) Hope this has helped a few of you.

PS. Friends don't let friends buy cheap DVD media...

I been using TY for over a year. The valueline go on sale for 200 for about 45 us. I agree that 8x is the fastest. I usually burn at 4 with no trouble. Imageburn is invaluable and the price is right too.
