I think the shout box in forums take away the crowd from the IRC channels!!

Either way is fine. I'm on IRC 24/7. So if TI got one I'd be there.

While I like the sound of the idea I've got a feeling that there would be a lot of new members hopping onto the channel to request invites. It would be nice if the IRC channel could be just for some chatting, but I've got a strong feeling there'd be more people asking for invites than anything else which I think would become slightly annoying.

I suppose you could "trial" it to see how it goes though and decide whether to keep it in the end.
