I personally use BLM to create IP blocklists for uTorrent but what do you guys use?

I use PeerGuardian because it supposedly helps block anti-p2p organizations, spyware, ad and other ip addresses. I mainly use it to protect myself.

I use the ipfilter found here: http://blocklistpro.com/download-center/ip-filters/ (nipfilter.dat.gz). Unpack and put in appdata/Roaming/uTorrent.

I'm using PeerGuardian. I used to use it on Windows and now on Mac OS X. Some aspects of the OS X version aren't as good as the Windows version, but it does the job.

What is the point if you are using private trackers~? If you use public trackers, then that is a different story. But private trackers~? That's being paranoid, especially if it is a very well known private tracker.

You can never be too certain. Although getting on a private tracker from a blacklisted address might be considered nonsense, it still happens sometimes on low-level trackers. Smarter organizations would just find an address range that's not blacklisted and continue from that point. I think the most recent known "break-in" is BayTSP (or whatever it was called) on TL monitoring Spore downloads. Most of those never get public anyway.

Regardless, I'm using the paranoid filter both home and on my box to get that extra layer of basic security against peers that might have malicious intentions. I don't particularly care if some innocent guy is getting bashes in the head for trying to connect to me from a blacklisted address. The address is blacklisted for a reason and I have no reason to make exceptions. So, as the old saying goes: better safe than sorry.

Just trying to point out that private trackers are not to be considered safe havens from the get-go.

I will not comment on the first part - it is your choice and your decision to use PG or not.

But this part is completely wrong.

Using an IP filter on a seedbox? What for? You are afraid, that your seedbox provider will get a notice that someone on their IP space is hosting torrents? As they don't know that...

PG gives 25-30% false positives. The database is badly maintained and lists a lot of residential space all over the world.

Take the first 10 consecutive entries of the blocked addresses and post them here. I will show you how many errors are there.

Just trying to point out that private trackers are not to be considered safe havens from the get-go.

And here you are right.
