XP because Vista is too graphic oriented and buggy, and I don't have $1,000 to shell out just to buy a Mac. Although the new Mac Pro is my dream PC.

Looked into buying a mac about a year and 4 months ago but bought a relatively cheap laptop for a third of the price.
It came with XP and I haven't switch. When I get a new desktop in the next year or 2, I'll likely switch over to Vista which hopefully will have its bugs all fixed.

Vista ultimate x86 - with a good PC to support it's features and requirements it's great. Works flawlessly for me, and it's perfect for my needs i won't switch to anything else for nothing. Actually i like it so much that i intend to buy it.

Good old xp. Everything works with it, it's faster, more relaible and more customisable.
Tried vista, and a week later I was back with xp.
No mac, for the simple reason I can't afford it :(
But even if I could, I reckon I would never leave my windows PC alone...

How can you tell an OS system is bad if you never tried it yourself. Internet is full of BS you know, vist doesen't have even half the problems tha xp has. It is a lot more demanding on PC resources, but just because you can't run it doesen't mean it's not good enough.

Yeah if you have the memory to run Vista then do it. I don't think it deserves all the bad rep that it's gotten. I had the same or less problems with Vista then i did with XP.

Heavily modified winXPpro. Need to have it on my stationary, since my university's server has problems with browsers that isn't IE, n' slightly heavier modified xp om my laptop (as close as OS X one can get). I do prefer OS X n' ubuntu, though. OS X since it's nice and clean, and ubuntu since it's easy and has gnome.

I was using windows XP for a long time. Recently I tried Vista which caused freezing my PC whenever I run eMule and uTorrent simultaneusly. So I tried to delete Vista installation by rebooting, selecting XP on my multiboot selection, and trying to delete the directories related with Vista. It didn't work! Simply I couldn't delete these directories.
So I had to format that drive to delete those directories....What a nice work Vista caused!!

Absolutely _lovely_ system. (Feel the sarcasm.)
Heard MS themselves thinks vista is too bloated. Naa, seriously? Longing for a good liter for it, though. I love how it handles RAM, but don't want all that extra crap installed within it.

also using Apple's software boot camp I run Vista Ultimate
and Using VMware Fusion i run both windows xp and recently ubuntu
I would have to say that Leopard is the best overall
while Vista is the best looking
XP is the best windows overall
and Ubuntu is by far the most customizable but also the hardest to get used to (which is why i also deleted it)

Its kinda funny ppl on crazy fast cpu + mucho memory so they can run vista. I'm curious as to how those things run on linux or mac. I like xp very much but I hate an eye candy o/s and put everything to classic that i can (altho enlightenment on linux is nice and I guess kde is too). I haven't used a mac in years but I plan to try to get osx86 installed at some point. In any case my I like many linux distros because it open source, modular, extremely customizable, and runs fast. Ubuntu 8 should be out by the time anyone reads this.

Once you find all the drivers the os is really good, but a lot of idiots dont seem to know of its existence, even now after over 3 years.
for example i just bought a WD mybook world edition. It comes with some special software without which you normally would not be able to access the disk. This one craps out of setup immediatly complaining that it needs XP or Vista.
Luckily I can hack the box but for any average user this type of behaviour is fubar.

I run Arch Linux on both of my machines, and am kind of surprised that nobody has yet mentioned it. It's currently one of the most popular power user distros, and is basically an easier to use pre-compiled Gentoo. I like it because it gives me a blank slate (or box of legos) to build my computing environment with, and never treats me as stupid or prejudges what I might want to do. Windows 2000 was the last Windows version I thought was really good, XP just being a rehash with things like a Clippy-inspired search dog tacked on to appeal to "home" users, aka people who liked MS Bob and need help to find the power button. That said, by SP2, XP became fairly stable, if a bit shiny, and I've never minded it much on public computers.

I was using Kubuntu for a couple of years when just recently I tried out Linux Mint. I was never a big Gnome fan, but Mint ended going from my VM to my main partition within days of trying it. For anyone interesting in trying Linux but wary of the unknown, I can wholeheartedly recommend Linux Mint as a solid and user-friendly OS that just works. I haven't once been forced to use the command line since installing it (but I DO use it by choice, of course).
I'm not here to forcefully convert anyone :) Just sharing my positive experience.

Vista Ultimate x64 because I just bought a quad core with 4GB RAM and 8800 GT and trying to downgrade to XP would be a waste. I'm a computer guy for a living and I've found that the people who say they hate Vista are either trying to put it on older, slower computers that can't handle it then saying that it stinks or haven't even tried it but are listening to other people complaining about how bad it is. Sure it had it's bugs in the beginning and it takes up a lot of resources, but if you have the hardware to run it it's way better than XP and all the updates and SP1 took care of a lot of the initial problems.
And for the people who say they're waiting for all the bugs to be worked out, if you keep waiting long enough Windows 7 will be out and you won't have to worry about Vista anymore.

XP.Why? It is a standard :D
Vista because I'm too lazy to switch to linux atm... Been trying to fork my computer for the last week or so, but just too lazy :E (and can't really use anything else than vista or linux due to my OEM parts on my computer, no support on XP)

Ahaha and dont pull the whole: BUT U CAN PLAY GAMES IN LINUX!!! I love linux, i use it, just not as much, but you cant play the popular games :P
And dont go sayign: USE WINE!! ITS NOT AN EMULATOR, IT USES THE REAL API!!!
Yes, i have used wine lol, but it doesnt run Counterstrike source NEARLY as well as on my XP:)
Gotta love XP once you've tweaked it to take up no resources and make it start up in like 5 seconds. Compatibility and the fact that windows is a standard is a plus :)

Actually recent test have shown Vista with SP1 perform better than XP on SP3 in many games. Software developers are starting to put more time into Vista drivers as oppose to XP drivers.
Ubuntu 8.4.(something... I think 2)... So, the answer would be Linux :)
And I use it because I see no point in using windows... Linux is so much better in almost every way, I can have an SSH server running here 247, and check my torrents/irc/whatever remotely from wherever I am, which is pretty awesome for one... And it is a bit faster than windows, which really wasn't slow, but its a plus to add. And it's free, and no need for antiviruses or such uselessnesses (is that a real word? :P)

Still using XP. Haven't made the switch to Vista for two reasons:
1. Heard a lot of bad things about it. Even though they might be fixed by now. Who knows? I haven't been keeping up.
2. Still too expensive for me to the upgrade. Well not really, I can afford it...but would it be justified? No, atleast in my mind not yet.
Off topic: What about Windows 7? Isn't that supposed to be the "Holy Grail" of Windows? The one that will solve all of our problems with current OS. Note the sarcasm.
XP for main PC's, Windows Home Server for...well server, & ubuntu for EEEPC.

vLite'd Windows Vista x64.. I tried windows server 2008 but the install footprint was twice the size of vista x64.. so I couldn't justify it, though it seemed to be more stable. I actually like Vista because it's heavily modified and not the stock slug. When tamed, vista x64 actually seems faster than XP to me.

hi, i'm a happy gentoo linux user.
i started with dos/windows (3, 95, 98, 2000, xp) and switched 3 or 4 years ago to linux. first debian woody: i had a little home server, it was perfect! i still have it somewhere and it still works great (upgraded to etch though)
