Pre Channels

A pre channel is an IRC channel in which a bot (prebot) announces new topsite warez (pre) releases in real time. Pre channels are generally provided as a convenience to members of the scene, often in conjunction with a topsite. Pre channels are typically private. Advantages

* Members of a pre channel are notified about new warez releases as they are released. This is of particular benefit to couriers and release groups.
* Pre channels commonly announce when a release is nuked or un-nuked.
* Pre channels provide a search facility that allows users to find out if a release exists, when it was released, and if it has been nuked. This function may also be used by release groups to avoid dupes (duplicates).
* Pre channels are also used for Topsites to measure how fast they received the release, otherwise known as the pretime.

Disadvantages

* Pre channels are often supplied with events from other pre channels, so spam may spread quickly. Many prebots employ elaborate filters to ensure only valid release events are announced.

There is a public pre channel on the same network that ST has its irc channel on.

On irc, connect to /server chav.eu.p2pirc.org:6667 and then join #pre

It is a pre channel so you can see when certain releases come out.

I never use irc pre channels but i use pre-sites :-) Doopes.com is the best one i found so far.

IRC pre-channels are of course the fastest but the pre-sites are more easy to navigate/filter/search. And pre-sites provide also infos about p2p releases, not only from the scene... :)

True...its much easier to open a website then get on irc and into the channels. A lot of people who are into torrents these days don't know about or don't know how to use irc. A few years ago, irc + newsgroups were the only way to go.

I totally agree. It's real time which really is a nice feature. And also a utility to download on as well.

My understanding is that when a release is initially released, the time it takes to be uploaded onto a site is considered a pre-time.

For instance, group ABC release a movie on top sites, ftp, etc. The time from when they are uploaded on these to the time it takes them to be uploaded on a specific torrent site is considered the time after pre (or pre-times)

Thus sites with the best pre-times are ones that upload the releases in the quickest times after they have been pre'ed.

sdelsole & Ti-Fan Pre time: lets say i got a CD thats not in stores or is but never rlzed in the scene i rip it upload it to an HQ (HQ=Ftp thats used by a rlz group which from there they fxp to other TopSites into a PRE dir which only a group member can see his own..), From that HQ they send the rlz to how meny topsites they have into pre dir only after that happens and all pre dirs on all topsites are filled we use a software/script and do a command !pre Tiesto-In_The_Mix-2008-RNS then its do auto on all topsites the next command "PRE Tiesto-In_The_Mix-2008-RNS MP3", now that its on the topsites that the group is on its called a PRE from there on u count how long its been Preed. hope u guys got it...

top sites are major warez sites?

topsites are ftp server whit 10-2gbit speed and linux OS 99% of the time and u got all sections there depends on what the site ops want yeh they have all tho from there all the warez comes out to P2P..
topsites are the main source.
