Both. I own a pair of pumas (pele version) that are pretty awesome. And I also wear two pairs of boots (by bed stu and ben sherman) that I purchased from the Urban Outfitter online store. The ben sherman's are suede, so I obviously can't wear them during the winter. My bed-stu's are thick dark brown leather. A really beautiful pair. Cost me a ****load, but they were worth it.

I think both have a purpose. If it's raining, or snowing, waterproof boots would obviously trump canvas shoes. But if it's sunny or just any other day, shoes would definitely be a more comfortable choice.
