View Full Version : How to get rid of the SCUM*cheaters!!!

This is one of the major problems here. So many people are willing to share their cakes (invites) with other people who doesn't have a minimum respect for their cake makers.
Often the good people with good intends will get banned just becaus they were being generous.
Not a while ago we got rid of almost 2000 inactive users if I remember corectly. Wich means majority of them came here with intend to steal something. Who knows how much of that scum is still here. You can find them by looking at their post history or should I say spam history.
I wondered what could be the possible solution to get rid of some cheaters, and I came to the next:
We should close all invite giveaways for atleast a month, only request section should be still active.
This way we would cut off many impatient cheaters. As that is one of theirs main "virtues".
If you have some suggestions, or if you can think of some better solutions, speak freely, as this is the core of all problems here at TI.

people need to start taking into consideration who they invite. there should be no more "ask for it and i'll give you the invite" crap. ask for proofs, ask for profile links, ask for spedtests, look at the post history. if a user asks for 20 invites in his first 30 posts - chances are he's a collector. don't invite him. if a user shows you ratioproof with 800 gigs up, and the speedtest doesnt look like anything right, and no seedbox - he's a cheater, don't invite him. if a user fails to provide profile links - liar, don't invite him. i'm pretty sure even demonoid or pretome staff don't want to deal with scumbags, but they have to, cause their invites are "lo-lev" and are given away like candy. yes, we definitely need to clear up the act, keep godd people and weed out lamos. better be small and strong than big and weak, that's what i say.
i don't see closing GA section as a solution, maybe have any user asking for invite provide a referrer, who will take responcibility if anything goes wrong?

just look at their profile links, and vet there speeds and such, it shouldn't be that hard
although I agree you should have to do your time to get invites

good advice.
the site will also be more stable with invite requests only.
instead of twenty people running after one person for a Revtt invite lol

cutting the invites section for a while is not a good ideia.. the inviter is responsible for his invitees, on trackers, and of course on the invite forum..so, my opinion is, blame aswell the inviters, most of them just want rep..
its the other side of the coin
I'm with Invernoso on this one. It's the inviters responsibility to ensure they give out their invites to good candidates. If people are just giving out invites to receive rep, then it's their own fault when it backfires on them. This might come across as slightly harsh, but it's really the only way people will learn.
The problem with having giveaways closed for a certain period is that people will just return later when they're open again and we'll have the same problem. That, or the request section will become flooded with requests containing no ratio proofs or anything. I mean, it's not a bad idea but I think it would be rather difficult to monitor.

This may be too hard to implement. But it would be nice if we could give feedback on past invitees. One person I gave an invite to went & got banned in 2 days, another didn't get banned but barely even logged into the account once, many more have been great invitees & I would like somewhere to say that. On our profiles it shows who we have repped & who has repped us. Maybe out next to that there could be an option with a drop down menu (option shouldn't come active until a week or two after initial repping), maybe 1 to 10 on how favorable the experience or something like that.
Yes, bottom line, it is my responsibility as an inviter to weed out the losers...but it's not easy. If I looked at someone's rep history & saw that guitarguy had rated his experience with the user as a 9...then I'd feel safer giving an invite. Cause I know guitarguy & trust him.
Might be hard to implement....but something like that.

There is truth in that, but most of the time even if you get a good look at their post, rep history.. whatever, you just can't be sure (just take a look at the hall of shame thread and you'll find many "good" users there)
The problem with having giveaways closed for a certain period is that people will just return later when they're open again and we'll have the same problem.
That is the point behind my suggestion, if they make 10 posts of spam per day when giveaways are open, and than when we close it they can't make a 10 per month, than you know something is wrong and that guy is cheater, collector, scum..
The request section will become flooded with requests containing no ratio proofs or anything.
Those guys never get their requests fullfilled.

Excellent suggestion FROGGIE, if that option would be implemented we would cut down the cheaters by 50% and you can feel more safer when giving away high lvl ones.

+1 i think that every invite should be treated the same tracker levels mean nothing.. when a certain tracker means everything to you.. and you work hard to get invites.. or donate.. which is worse if you invite the wrong person and he/she gets invite and fcuks their account up and you get banned for it... its just not nice
the way i do it is ask for everything.. proofs mean nothing because most traders will have good buffered accounts thats why speed test and seedbox proof are essential
profile links will tell you if they are who they are if you aint sure ask other members here if they had probs when they invited him and make your own decision you are not commited to invite somebody just because you asked for proofs
be careful and ask for everything ppl that realy want the invite will do anything to get it and make sure all proof is fresh with your name everywhere
on them and then make your decision
after that if you are still not sure tell them to get somebody to vouch for them then it will sort the good from the bad
im lucky iv never been banned from a tracker but i do know many that have hope this helps pal ;)

i dont just look for rep i scrutinize everybody i invite iv worked hard on all my trackers and pride myself in being a good user
i understand what you say and its right but you cant label evrybody the same
i take responsibility for everybody i invite and the conseqences that goes with it just my thoughts and no disrespect meant
rep means nothing friends mean everything
sharing realy is caring in my case

There will always be cheater / trader whatever we do even if that have to wait one year to get there invites, its up to the inviter to check who he is inviting, just like at my giveaway at least half the people who posted got banned and its not even hard to find trackers. Also like other said if you want to rep wore and invite whomever ask without checking well it will increase the chance you will invite an rotten apple. Of course there are people who ask for a certain amount of rep before inviting someone, certainly understandable but it also leads to rep woring.
TL : DR version : Check who you invite, don't farm rep.
Those guys never get their requests fullfilled.
The point I was trying to make with that is that the request section would get so flooded with half-arsed requests that you'd seldom come across a good, deserving request. So, those of whom put effort into making a proper request would go by unnoticed in many cases.
I agree that Froggie's suggestion is a very good one. A way for an inviter to 'rate' their invitee based on how they've been using their account (ie. ratio, activity etc) would work very well.
And as for the inviter being responsible for who they invite, I understand that it can be quite difficult at times. But at the moment, there are far too many users that hand out invites simply to receive the rep (and I guess they give a bad name to the users that don't abuse the system).

Great idea. BTW, I think that it was me who called for the epic forum prune (Where did I put that thread again...) I think every year we should celebrate that special day with... Another prune.

It is the inviter's responsibility to check on who he/she is inviting. Ask for ratio proofs, profile links, check their post history (I tend to stress on the post history and profile links. If someone is here for the sole purpose of collecting invites, it is quite easy to distinguish them with their numerous constant posts in invite sections, those type of people you should avoid. And if you're not quite sure about the profile links, pm them make sure they are valid. I like to invite members who use the same username on all trackers. Most traders use different usernames to lower their chances of getting a global ban.)
If you have many tracker invites, don't just hang them out like fliers! For god's sake, just keep them to yourself if no one wants it!! Don't whine about it if you get banned because your invitee's banned for trading or cheating. It's your fault!
By closing the invite giveaway might make some of bad members go off for awhile, but they'll come back once it's back up again. They're like bugs, you can never ever get rid of all of them no matter how hard you stump or spray. Unless you completely close the invite system and slowly weed out bad users. Might take awhile....and lower activity.
About the rating the invitee, it might be an okay idea but what if the invitee was waiting for a freeleech period. especially on waffles or a tracker similar, it's a bit hard to seed. The best way is wait for a freeleech session and it might take awhile because you never know when it's coming. I'm not sure about you guys, but I don't like to being pressured into using a tracker. I like to go on my own pace. Don't get me wrong, I use all my accounts, but I like to slowly ease into the tracker. Post around, browse a bit, get comfy.

Don't whine about it if you get banned because your invitee's banned for trading or cheating. It's your fault! If everyone thought like that, no invites would ever be handed out, and the only way to get invites would be to request them.
I agree with this: closing the invite giveaway section is only going to temporarily solve the problem.
About the rating the invitee, it might be an okay idea but what if the invitee was waiting for a freeleech period. especially on waffles or a tracker similar, it's a bit hard to seed. The best way is wait for a freeleech session and it might take awhile because you never know when it's coming. Well, by doing this, the process of obtaining invites would be a lot slower. Because first, somebody would have to be wanting to give out the invite. Then, somebody else will have to want to have the invites, and finally they both have to wait for free-leech to occur. This is not practical, really.
I'm not sure about you guys, but I don't like to being pressured into using a tracker. I like to go on my own pace. Don't get me wrong, I use all my accounts, but I like to slowly ease into the tracker. Post around, browse a bit, get comfy. You should not actually be pressured, nor should anybody because it would be you yourself who would be asking for the invite at the specific time you wanted that invite. In other words, you would probably only ask if you thought you wanted it. Unless of course it was because you found an invite giveaway in the first place, that offered that invite, and even so, you would not jeopardize your future receiving of invites just because you wanted that invite, when you already have been invited to another that you have to improve your reputation upon.
This may be too hard to implement. But it would be nice if we could give feedback on past invitees. One person I gave an invite to went & got banned in 2 days, another didn't get banned but barely even logged into the account once, many more have been great invitees & I would like somewhere to say that. Maybe out next to that there could be an option with a drop down menu (option shouldn't come active until a week or two after initial repping), maybe 1 to 10 on how favorable the experience or something like that. I agree with this suggestion: there should be some way to distinguish between the types of invited members. However, we are not going to know if the member is good or not just after you receive the invite, you will have to wait some time, before you can review the person: and some people are only here for a specific individual invite, so will be gone after they receive that invite.
And as for the inviter being responsible for who they invite, I understand that it can be quite difficult at times. But at the moment, there are far too many users that hand out invites simply to receive the rep (and I guess they give a bad name to the users that don't abuse the system). Agreed with this. It is only your own fault that you gave it out to somebody who really did not care of the inviter.
This is one of the major problems here. So many people are willing to share their cakes (invites) with other people who doesn't have a minimum respect for their cake makers. The only reason why people would give invites for reputation in the first place would be because it improves their chances of acquiring an invite to that tracker that they wanted in the first place.
Not a while ago we got rid of almost 2000 inactive users if I remember corectly. Wich means majority of them came here with intend to steal something. Who knows how much of that scum is still here. You can find them by looking at their post history or should I say spam history. That is because a lot of members think they could just receive an invite from a member by asking. Of course, they are wrong, but this is the reason. And actually, a lot of members only join forums like this in the first place to receive invites. They think, "Hey, since I joined the forum, I expect to be rewarded or given something back in return for my time spent here." Of course, thinking in that attitude would get them nothing - and they never learn either because they just keep joining other forums like these, until they eventually find the invite. It sometimes works, but most of the time, it does not, and yet they still try anyway.
I wondered what could be the possible solution to get rid of some cheaters, and I came to the next:
We should close all invite giveaways for atleast a month, only request section should be still active. This way we would cut off many impatient cheaters. As that is one of theirs main "virtues". This would only temporarily solve the problem, as once this section returns, the same "cheaters" or "scums" as you call them, will return. If it is going to be forever closed, it is just going to lose a lot of our members almost immediately and there will be lots of inactive members that would just be deleted as soon as they sign-up immediately.
people need to start taking into consideration who they invite. there should be no more "ask for it and i'll give you the invite" crap. ask for proofs, ask for profile links, ask for spedtests, look at the post history. This sounds alright, but there is one problem when starting: How are people ever going to get their profile links at the start in the first place~? Are they supposed to show you their profiles to ThePirateBay and Mininova or Demonoid for their first ever private tracker~?
if a user asks for 20 invites in his first 30 posts - chances are he's a collector. don't invite him. or
if a user fails to provide profile links - liar, don't invite him. Most likely, but not all the time: A lot of people who are getting their first private trackers think that they should post in a whole lot of them because if they are not picked for a certain private tracker in one giveaway, they "might" get it from another giveaway. They do not realize that this is rude, and inconsiderate to other members that truly want to be in that tracker, than to the members who go, "What the hell, I'll give that one a shot..."
if a user shows you ratioproof with 800 gigs up, and the speedtest doesnt look like anything right, and no seedbox - he's a cheater, don't invite him. Again, mostly true, but sometimes, there are exceptions. A lot of private trackers have Free-leech a LOT - or free-leech on torrents bigger than a certain size. I do know I have a PassthePopcorn account, and torrents above 12GB are always on free-leech.
i don't see closing GA section as a solution Same here.
I'm with Invernoso on this one. It's the inviters responsibility to ensure they give out their invites to good candidates. If people are just giving out invites to receive rep, then it's their own fault when it backfires on them. This might come across as slightly harsh, but it's really the only way people will learn. Agreed. In any business deal, may it be selling an item or in this scenario, giving away of invites, it is your own fault if anything happens. If you were trying to sell say... an appliance and the person who bought it finds a problem, you cannot blame the person who sold you the resources to build the item, it is your own fault that that specific something does not work. Same goes to invites.
The problem with having giveaways closed for a certain period is that people will just return later when they're open again and we'll have the same problem. That, or the request section will become flooded with requests containing no ratio proofs or anything. I mean, it's not a bad idea but I think it would be rather difficult to monitor.Agreed.

If we had the invitee rating implemented you wouldn't need to rate the invitee as soon as they signed up or within days of signing up. While they may not immediately start uploading or downloading, you can always check when they last logged in and sometimes even whether they've been posting on the forums (just overall activity on the site). I mean, if they haven't logged in for about a month at least you know they aren't bothering to keep active, even though most trackers would automatically delete them if they hadn't logged in in such a long time.

Few of you also pointed to this, and that you need some comfor first :p
So, than we should implement option to rate the invitee after one month or two.
