Intel ATM. As for AMD's Phenom, they're preparing their new revision in march or april I think so we should just wait and see they will gain any preformance boost with this new stepping

as of right now it seems to me that intel is kicking amd's ass. the last computer i built (about 2 years ago) i put in an amd 64-bit dual-core because they were the first ones with 64-bit and they had dual-core available at the time whereas intel only had hyper-threading but today...WHOLE different story. intel has a big line-up of dual-core processors, they have quad-core processors and they run 45nm processor architecture.
short answer: intel.

i suppose it's intel...sadly...i prefer amd:) but nowadays they offer pretty cheap processors with great oc capability so the best choice is to have intel:)

About the same in my opinion
I've had an used an AMD 4000+ for a while now (couple years), and it stills seems to do pretty good with whatever I need it for (runs America's Army, NWN, Oblivion, F.E.A.R. all ok)

I use AMD, the old Athlon 64's were good... But Intel fixed some ****, and now their Core2 Duo's kick AMD's ASS....
Never been able to get Athlon to overclock and be stable at anything over 3GHz... .
I've overclocked to the region of 3.8 GHz with the stock heatsink on the Core2's...
Power usage also...
Athlon64 FX-62 power system consumes upwards of 235W, whereas a Core 2 Duo E6750 system consumes 163W of power... Save on electric for sure...
Also Intel has recently added the support for duo video cards, whereas AMD was the only one that offered that until the P965...
Anyway, keep in mind what you're building... A budget system, you're better off with a Athlon then an Intel, but if you're gonna be building something kick-ass, and have the $ to spend go with the new core 2's...

Intel's dual core and 45nm architecture is just blowing everything out of the water right now... unless you are running 64-bit apps, but the majority of users don't need this capability... the new stuff coming down the pipe right now from Intel looks promising...

If you are a hardcore gamer and dont really care about the price too much, then intel is definately the way to go - get yourself a good quad core. AMD is more efficient with their older processors (athlon, sempron, athlon fx, x2, opteron, etc). If you are not going to get a quad core pc, then get an AMD cpu, but if you are going to get a quad core, then get yourself an Intel because they have scored higher overall in gaming :)
Dailow
06-11-2008, 11:51 PM
Intel is the current performance leader, and they're also lowering the price enough that AMD can't really be too competitive as it is. It'll only become worse in the Fall when Intel starts releasing CPUs based on their new architecture. I don't think AMD has anything down their pipeline until the new year that would try and counter these new products from Intel.

Intel has the CPU`s mostly dedicated for hardcore gaming , The AMD prossesors are more for work.
I have used both AMD and Intel , and think that INtel has the greatest prosessor(s)
Therse also a reason, why gaming companies always anounce "Works best on Core 2 duo Extreme", And not "For best performance, use AMD Athlon 4400++" :)

It is interesting to see how many people are giving up on AMD. I just received my new Phenom 9950 Black Edition Today. I fully expect to be having this Quad Core running at 3.0 GHZ plus within the week. I think far to often people overlook AMDs price / value advantage over Intel. I mean the Flagship chip cost me $230 and aside from its high wattage and slightly slower clock, it's comparable to Intels 45nm flagship in my opinion (by comparable I don't mean equal but reasonably close). Check Sharkys out and see the chart for yourself, they didn't even compare the 9950 and still the AMD is close to Intels top chip. If you have tons of money then the Intels are superior for the time being. And definately there are far more Socket 775 mobos and of course there is always the DDR3 memory and higher FSB on the intel systems. But all those components come at much higher premiums then AMD component. I mean I could build 2 or 3 top of the line AMD based systems for what it cost to build one Intel. But lets face it, AMD will be back in this game. Even Intel was behind at one point. One of the two will always be winning. AMD will be dropping there 45nm chips soon and then we will see where things go. Long live AMD, the computer enthusiast chip of choice and the original OC top pick.

Intel for sure. It trumps AMD both in terms of power consumption and overall speed :) Imho AMD has lost the multi-core processor battle.

My vote by Intel xD
I have both AMD and Intell Systems and i hardly notice the diffrence apart from that intell systems allow you to install some software that AMD processor won't let you install.

Fot desktop PC's i reccomend AMD but lets wait for a Intel new baby -> i7 CPU. Probably situation will change caouse it's a little revolution. For portable computers laptops/notebooks I recommend Intel and only Intel. AMD mobile processors are not so good, the'y using more power and making trouble to hardware. Centrino or Santa Rosa is good choice.

I like the new Intel chips, but I am currently using a computer that I built with an AMD chip a couple of years ago. It has performed very well and has proven to be very stable. No complaints with either.
Intel usually has better cache speeds and is a higher price in general, but for the price and quality I would go for AMD. I had an AMD processor for the longest time, they are really great and man can they last.

I am gonna say medium to high end range pricing I would go with intel, but for people on a super low budget AMD is great. Good thing for me I go midrange so intel wins there.

Having AMD cut their prices
I would say an E2200 wins AMD Athlon 6000. But at the same time AMD Athlon Phenom Quad 9550 is a best bet than E7300 at its equal price tags.
No matter what, intel wins for reliability and sustainability in market. Likewise AMD tries to competes without giving up has to be appreciated, good to have competition for better pricing.

I would say Intel has better high end cpus than AMD ( The core i7 , Core 2 Quad ) , but Intel CPUs are more expensive than AMD for the same class . So AMD offers better value for money .
BTW , AMD on a third party chipsets can be a nightmare (not always ). Intel have their own chipsets . So does AMD lately with their ATI chipsets .

Get an Intel Core 2 Duo for porcessor but an ATI graphics card. I have read in multiple places that Intel processors while they are more expensive are also much better, but there have been problems regarding heat management with the nVidia graphics cards so ATI is better for that
