I'm talking here about anonymity. For example when RIAA shots down server, site they have an acces to all those IPs right ?? In that case will police start visiting all those ppl who downloaded stuff??

Just asking, cause i don't have a clue how this all is working.

I know they can but what's more anonymous ?

but what happens when police shuts down a tracker site do they start chasing after ppl who downloaded stuff. Is tracker system more anonymous than emule and rapidshare ???

Even if they have the IPs they NEED the ISP to tell them who had each IP at the given time of the download..

and as far as i know, up to now the ISP do not give away such info coz they are considered personal information!

what i more, i read once that if your IP is connected this does not necessary mean that u were downloading..you can claim that u were only connected..not dling anything!

The last one applies only to emule i think:)

Rapidshare works very closely with RIAA so its far more dangerous place than tracker sites imo.

usenet FTW ;)

No really use a private community and stay clear of any site that is open signups or has a big userbase.

I'll pass on rapidshare....I prefer safety in numbers for the most part. Like swift said...stick to private trackers. Also...if you're really paranoid...resist the urge to u/l (seed) torrents unless you have a seedbox or proxy service.

Yea, I always stick with private trackers... All that rapidshare, usenet, etc. I don't trust.

Is it worth having rapidshare in college if they block the torrent ports?

If your paranoid or scared then you might as well quit and go back to living in a box.

Do you think RIAA or any such agency will sue if one downloads a music file from a torrent site?

Nope . They try to instill a sense of fear.

It is not economical to sue a person just because he has downloaded a song from RS, or a tracker or
usenet whatever it is.

These agencies are facing lot of problems -technical and social when it comes to downloading
music or movies.

But the downloading has not brought down the profit of these agencies even by a penny.

I am more worried about the hackers who are tormenting the torrent sites and trying to glean
personal information.

So do not give all the details -extremely personal while registering on these sites

So do not worry tracker sites are not dangerous or to put in a simple manner

Torrent sites are as dangerous as the Internet itself.

who gives a **** about you...they take care about admins and some other important members, you are the last person of the list.

In Rapidshare too. They dont take the responsibily of the files so you cant be resposible too!

When i use only torrent, in one day PG2 must block thousands IP so i don't think torrent is safe and i think file sharing services like this.

ya im going to definitely say no, rapidshare tracks your ever move, emule has no security at all, torrent communities are generally pretty good at keeping confidential, no one wants anything to happen to them or their communities.
