Do you believe time travel will ever be possible? Obviously time travel is a complicated subject (both from a theoretical and practical perspective)... but I watched Stephen Hawking's The Universe Episode 2 on Time Travel recently and it peaked my interest again on the subject. I suggest watching it (I dl'd it from ScienceHD but I'm sure it's available elsewhere), if you're interested in the subject at all. There was another documentary/series I saw that had several physicists weighing in, but I can't recall the name of the show. If you have any cool info to share on the subject, please post here so we can all enjoy :) Otherwise your comments and analysis are always welcome!

I used to have hour long talks about this with my friends. This is really a conversation that can go on forever. If you are really interested in the idea of time travel I recommend you watch a movie called primer. It will have you pondering for weeks.

Yea Primer was intense despite it's low budget. And as bio pointed out, proof positive is Back to the Future. :)

I think Theoretically its possible. However, We don't have the resources or energy to manipulate gravity or space. Even then, I could only imagine what our people would do with the technology (For the Better or Worse) It would definitely be a Gov't controlled thing lol

It is possible to travel time in your mind... just close your eyes :D that way you can travel back in your memories ;)

Words by Jon Bershad at Mediaite.

"Perhaps piqued by the awesome Back to the Future reunion, the internet has been buzzing about video footage that appears to show a woman talking on a cellphone…in 1928. The footage is from the premiere of Charlie Chaplin’s film The Circus and was spotted by Belfast filmmaker George Clarke. It shows a woman walking by the camera, talking with her hand to her ear, seemingly holding something to it. Was she just wasn’t happy with the movie’s DVD restoration and felt the need to transcend time to see it on the big screen? It’s hard to say.

I’m going to take a wild guess and say that this isn’t real – what with time travel being declared impossible by most physicists and also the whole lack of cell towers in 1928 but, hey, I’m a skeptic. Still, like the time traveling hipster photo that was making the rounds a few months ago, it’s fun to believe. However, do we really want time travel to be a reality? Obviously, such important speculative fiction as Timecop have already shown the inherent dangers. And, besides, if Lea Thompson can still look hot 25 years later, maybe we don’t even need it.

Check out the video below. The footage starts around 2:40:"

I think it is possible. Time and location are the "basis" of our space, so if we can change our location, why can't we change the time, we are in?

I hope people will never make time travel possible.

Notice how hawkins is in everything right now? strange how the authorities are running everything in the media that he says, since he started working with CERN. Time travel is possible and they have been experimenting with quantum physics for over 35 years. When the truth comes out it will be no good to us as 'they' would have already jumped ship, why else would they invest in billions of tax payers money in order to start seeding off world, think about it. Time travel is possible thanks to looking glass technology the only problem is there is nothing beyond 2012 that we can change.

Steven Hawking says that Time Travel is possible but only in the Future and not in the past.
You could watch the 40mins episode of Stephen Hawkins Time Travel Episode of Into The Universe or watch this 2mins long version.

taupact, what did you think of the movies paycheck and deja vu? how realistic do you think the technology portrayed in the films is/will ever be?

Theoretically Possible....but i dont think it would be possible practically.

time travel into the future is possible. either by getting sufficiently close to and orbiting a super massive black hole, or by travelling at a significant fraction of the speed of light. however, travelling backwards creates a paradox, in that it allows for effects to precede causes, breaking a universal rule -> thus it's impossible to travel backwards.
