My favorite news so far is everything to do with Wikileaks. Their release of the insurance file seemed to be something out of a movie more than real life. Im still sitting on the file hoping the key will get released.

If I had to bet.. There will be a lot more leaks coming, not only from Wikileaks, but several other sites. Several members left and setup a few other sites, besides a couple that already existed. With the attention Wikileaks has got, people know who to give things to..

I remember when Napster was unknown to the general public and it was this great place to get music. Then it was all over the news and everyone was asking me where to get it, they were not smart enough to google napster or try napster.com. They would have been better off leaving napster alone.

While this isnt the same thing by far, I think the fact attention has been drawn in a big way to Wikileaks will only serve to make Wikileaks bigger and bigger.. If you break them there is 5 to take their place, just as there was with napster..

Yeah bad comparison but something in there seems to make sense..

Well with both the attention multiplier effect is great - and imho a +1 for the community at large overall. Wkileaks benefit is obvious (sources know where to deliver and the guy is willing to go to hell and back to keep info and sources safe), though if it turns out some of wikileaks so-called security protocols were as poor as they were, that may dampen their rep with would-be sources. As far as napster, i think the ballooning of popularity lead to the development and future success of its offspring despite its inevitable downfall (though im sure some would disagree whether the popularity was a net positive or negative).

I think I am personally better off with less of the masses pirating everything under the sun, Napster brought music piracy to the common people, which in the end brought way too much attention from every anti piracy group and governments.

As far as Wikileaks, maybe they won't survive all that is coming there way, I hope they do. But they will improve and their competitors will bring much more to the table. I like where it is headed personally.

but there are mixed feelings about popularity... the larger community around a site or idea, greater chance for "talent" as far as development, innovation, content, et al. of course some fires are hard to control, and word spreads too fast to the wrong ppl... but if you have tight security and backup you can mitigate the relative risks... but if you're talented enough and have access enough to get started and maintained... it may not be worth the risk to expand above a certain % (in order to remain well under the radar)
