Apr-22-08 - Policy Changes to Invites and Promotions
New Invite Policy (changes in bold)
Some of you will have noticed by now that you have less invites than before. This is not a bug, nor does it necessarily mean that you have committed any offence. We have carefully reviewed our invites policy and as a result, have made significant changes, effective immediately.
As of today:
# No member will be able to have or receive any more than 3 invites at any one time
# Invites are no longer given out upon promotion; for ANY class. They are now allocated automatically to eligible members every 30 days.
# Invites will only be given out to Power Users and above. Any members in the user class will find that they have had any existing invites reduced to zero and will need to achieve promotion to become eligible again.
# Invites remain a privilege and may still be disabled for violation of rules (i.e. re-inviting previously disabled users back into site, etc.)
Remember, having an account doesn't automatically entitle you to receive invites. Anybody who had their invites disabled before (whether you realized it or not) will not suddenly start receiving them now.
And anyone who has them now could still lose them at any time, if staff decide.
It's been said before that a BitMe invite is a terrible thing to waste. There's even more truth to that now, so please be mindful.
Note: If you had invites before, and are still eligible even according to the new rules, and find you have none now, it may be because the system hasn't got around to you yet. It may take some time, so please be patient.
New Promotion Policy (changes in bold)
From today:
# Power Users must have been be a member for at least 4 weeks, have uploaded at least 50GB and have a ratio at or above 1.05. The promotion is automatic when these conditions are met. Note that you will be automatically demoted from this status if your ratio drops below 0.95 at any time.
# VIPs must have been a member for at least 90 days, have uploaded at least 70GB and have a ratio of at least 3.0. The promotion is automatic when these conditions are met. A VIP will be automatically demoted if their ratio falls below 1.75 at any time.
# ELITE status will remain unchanged and will continue to be awarded manually by staff or for gift donations (not upload donations)
The FAQ will be updated with the changes shortly. In the meantime, anyone PM-ing staff to find out what happened to their invites will merely be directed to this announcement, and later, to the updated FAQ.
We thank you all for helping to make BitMe the number one e-learning site. As always, we're commited to doing our best to serve you better. We know that there will be those of you who will be negatively affected by these changes in the short term and we regret that, but they really are necessary and long overdue.
There are many other changes in the pipeline; some have already been implemented and others are on their way, so we ask that you continue to support and bear with us in the meantime. We promise it'll be worth it. As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome.
